Investigating modelling approaches to deal with small numbers and missing values in disease mapping
In this thesis we have presented results from a simulated data set based on the 1997 Belgian Health Interview Survey. The aim was to describe the distribution of the disease with respect to the place of occurrence. Several methods in the Bayesian framework have been considered. We have shown in these results that basing our conclusion on the SMRs alone to describe the disease risk may prove inadequate.
Survival Chances Of Off-Farm Micro and Small Enterprises: The Case Study Of Lilongwe District
Micro and Small Enterprises (MSEs) have been widely recognized for playing significant role in poverty reduction through income generation from sales, job creation at low cost, utilization of locally found resources, adding value to agricultural produce, and production of goods and services that meet basic needs of the poor. However, the contribution of MSEs to poverty reduction processes and development in general is much dependent on the length of period these enterprises survive.
Customer Profiling Using a Service-Oriented Architecture
An extensive literature review was conducted on SOA, customer profiling and e-commerce systems development. SOA enabling technologies, such as, web services, enterprise service bus (ESB) and open source Sun Java SOA implementation tools, for example, Open ESB, GlassFish application server and Netbeans IDE were analysed. A Java web services-based customer profiling system was prototyped following SOA design principles. An end-user evaluation survey was conducted using eye tracking with a sample of 30 participants. The evaluation was done on two e-commerce systems with the same interface but running on two different customer profile back-ends, SOA and client-server. The results show that participants did not experience significant difference between the two systems, however, eye tracking results showed a significant difference between the two systems.

Information Security Awareness: Generic Content, Tools and Techniques
With the important role that these awareness programmes play in organizations’ complete information security programmes, it is a must that all organizations that are serious about information security must implement it. But though awareness programmes have become increasing important, the level of awareness in most organizations is still low. It seems that the current approach of developing these programmes does not satisfy the needs of most organizations. Therefore, another approach, which tries to meet the needs of most organizations, is proposed in this project as part of the solution of raising the level of awareness programmes in organizations.

Trade Effects Of Sanitary And Phytosanitory Standards and Technical Barriers To Trade On Coffee Exports from Malawi
Market access for agricultural products from developing and least developed countries is hampered by numerous trade barriers. Some of these barriers appear in the form of standards and technical regulations that have to be followed by both exporters and importers. While some of these standards and regulations are purposely crafted to restrict certain imports, others are genuine measures serving various purposes. These barriers to trade are commonly referred to as technical barriers to trade.
Biomass Ash Cement Blends
The research was aimed at producing low cost durable cement extenders from ash residues of agricultural co-products to enhance sustainable utilization of natural resources. Agricultural residues such as rice husks, wheat straw, maize stalks and industrial wastes such as sawdust and ashes present disposal problems to authorities. Cement is the main constituent material in the construction industry. However, the production of cement contributes up to 10% of the global CO2 emissions. Furthermore it is an expensive commodity to a majority of low income earners in emerging economies.
